Vicki Peppos was born in the Greek dominant suburbs of Melbourne’s south east to Greek Australian migrant parents, but spent several memorable years in northern Greece as a child. It was here that her great love affair with organic, seasonal produce was born, and since then has eagerly learned how to make traditional Greek dishes from the women in her family. Vicki has had a successful career in science and finance, but her unrelenting passion for food has made her follow her heart to launch The Sweet Greek, Melbourne’s first exclusively Greek cooking school, to enable her to share the Greek heritage that means so much to her.
The Sweet Greek kitchen & dining space…
After teaching cooking classes at other educational institutions, such as Holmesglen TAFE and CAE in Melbourne, Vicki felt that the next natural progression was to build a kitchen space that was an extension to her kitchen at home.
So The Sweet Greek kitchen was created, in ‘Hellenic Oakleigh’ within walking distance to all things Greek!
The kitchen is well equipped for demo and hands-on cooking classes, has plenty of space and an abundance of natural light.
The dining space in front, seats 14 on a generous family sized table (that Vicki hand created all the mosaic work on), and gets bathed in sunlight on those warm, sunny days – it is here that we finish up our day, enjoying the products of our cooking classes, drinking, talking, laughing and sharing our stories……
There are Greek cookbooks to flick through, yummy Greek produce to ponder upon, authentic Greek kitchenware and all sorts of ‘bits & pieces’ sourced from Greece available for purchase.
We are also currently in the process of registering the kitchen suitable for hire. Details to follow shortly.
But the best part of all is that Vicki’s warm hospitality & generosity leave you with a sense of having experienced something truly special, familiar, unique…& definitely Greek!
